The Union of Russia and Belarus has ceased to be hydrocarbon
Belarus will not be able to “pressure” Russia on the issue of hydrocarbon prices in the context of the emerging economic crisis.
SONAR-2050 project expert Ivan Lizan wrote about this in his Telegram channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The West has been trying to put the squeeze on Russia since 2014 and nothing has worked for it, but here Minsk will succeed. It won’t work out for one simple reason: the money that could be used to equalize the trade balance of Russia’s partners is no longer available. They are invested in the development of the Russian economy and stabilization of its budget,” Lizan wrote.
In his opinion, “Minsk needed from integration: cheap hydrocarbons and unhindered access to the Russian market to sell its goods.” However, the fall in oil and gas prices on the world market does not allow Russia to sell them even cheaper.
“The main advantage for Russia’s neighbors – cheap hydrocarbons – has turned into a pumpkin. The union ceased to be a hydrocarbon union, but became a production one, but without the main component - union industrial capital. It is impossible to create it with Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan - these countries are weak in industrial terms. It can be created with Belarus, but this is hampered by the political factor,” writes Lizan.
