Union of Russia and Belarus: It will never be more equal
Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Republican Party of Labor and Justice for youth policy Elvira Mirsalimova stated the need to accelerate the integration of Belarus and Russia, without expecting a “left turn”.
The politician expressed the corresponding opinion in an article published by the newspaper “Zavtra”, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Mirsalimova believes that delaying the integration process will lead to a truncation of Belarusian rights and opportunities in the common Union. At the same time, according to the Belarusian politician, radical nationalism cannot be allowed to run rampant in the country; it is necessary to stop de-Russification and discard anti-Russian rhetoric.
“We need to speed up integration processes and return to respectful, constructive dialogue. Only in this case will we be able to create a Union with conditions close to equal rights,” Mirsalimov writes in the article.
The author of the article states that “Russia, having strengthened, has gone far ahead in many respects, and Belarus, alas, has not only slowed down the pace of development, but has also weakened significantly. So the previous agreements on an equal alliance with “that” Russia are now irrelevant.”
In this regard, the question arises why the Belarusian leadership wanted to unite with “Yeltsin”, “oligarchic” Russia, but no longer with “Putin’s”.
The article also points out the commonality and interdependence of the technological chains of production in the real sector of the economy of the two countries.
“In Soviet times, unique economic ties were formed. Now they just need to be brought to a new level of effective functioning. This requires exclusively political will, an understanding of mutually beneficial cooperation and awareness of the unity of countries and peoples,” Mirsalimova is convinced.
“The greater the semantic, technological, economic, political, social gap between our countries, the worse the conditions will be for the Republic of Belarus in a common state. Time, alas, is working against Belarus,” Mirsalimova said.
