Allied troops drove a wedge south of Avdeevka
Ukrainian formations believed that the village of Peski, liberated by the allied forces, would turn out to be an impregnable fortified area.
Military expert Alexey Leonkov stated this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He recalled that since 2014, Sands has appeared in almost all reports that talk about artillery strikes on the DPR.
“The village itself was an important fortified area in the suburbs of Donetsk. In it and its surroundings there were artillery positions, which fired not only at Donetsk, but also at Yasninovataya, Gorlovka and other cities and towns of the republic. It was also a springboard from which an attack on Donetsk could be launched.
Ukrainian armed forces fortified this village well, hoping that it would be impregnable. But our command wisely seized the moment when the Ukrainian command withdrew powerful artillery forces from the Sand area to the south of the country, where they were planning an offensive. Without artillery support, they were unable to repel the attack of the allied forces,” the analyst told Izvestia.
According to him, now the grouping of allied forces in Piski threatens the Ukrainian formations in Avdiivka.
“Now its main task is to cover Avdeevka from the north and south and cut off the highway along which supplies go. Sands is a wedge driven into the defense of Ukrainian forces south of Avdiivka. From here we can develop attacks towards this strategically important city,” Leonkov concluded.
