The “Greater Albania” energy system has been created
Albania and Kosovo have signed an agreement under which the separatist entity will join the Albanian power grid in April 2020.
This was reported by BalkanInsight, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is a historic agreement for Kosovo because until now we have been part of the Serbian energy system EMS,” said Ilira Shalu, chief executive officer of Kosovo energy operator KOSTT.
In response, Serbia accused Pristina and Tirana of creating a “Greater Albania” energy sector.
“Serbia is the owner and builder of energy systems in Kosovo and Metohija, and there is ample evidence of this,” said Serbian government spokesman in Kosovo Marko Djuric.
He believes that the deal has unmasked the "truly chauvinistic politics of Pristina" and urged the international community to prevent the implementation of this agreement.
Serbia and Kosovo signed an agreement to operate their mutual power grid in 2015, but it has not yet entered into force.
