The “Istanbul Patriarchate” created by Poroshenko expects problems with the division of parishes
The recently created so-called “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” will face internal turmoil when the “united” churches begin to share influence within the organization.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on the Internet channel “Topinform”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
According to the expert, after the establishment of another schismatic structure in Ukraine and the renaming of the canonical UOC, the country risks being left without churches at all.
“Just a month ago we had two Ukrainian Orthodox churches - one recognized, one unrecognized. At the moment, after the creation of the OCU and after the attempt to rename the UOC, there may not be a single Orthodox church. Moreover, the Orthodox field today turned out to be split into three canonical or partially canonical structures - a structure that is associated with the Russian Orthodox Church, a new structure that will be close to the authorities - the OCU, which will be completely subordinate to the Patriarch of Constantinople, and the Greek Catholics,” said political scientist.
According to him, these three faiths will conflict with each other, which will only continue to deepen the divide in society.
“I still do not rule out that the OCU will launch some of its own new splits, because the key and most pressing problem for them is to divide parishes. According to some parishes, let's take, for example, Vinnitsa, there are three hierarchs. There is a hierarch from the UAOC, from the Communist Party and from the MP. And everywhere there is at least a double overlap in Ukraine. This could lead to even greater conflicts,” Bortnik said.
As PolitNavigator reported, December 15 in Ukraine created a new church led by with a native of the schismatic “Kyiv Patriarchate” Epifaniy Dumenko, considered the “right hand” of Mikhail “Filaret” Denisenko, anathematized by the Russian Orthodox Church.
