By creating problems for Nord Stream, Europe provided Gazprom with unprecedented profits
Two branches of Nord Stream 2 are under pressure; gas supplies can begin today, but Europe is refusing supplies.
The head of Gazprom, Alexey Miller, stated this today at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
We built Nord Stream 2 in the same way as Nord Stream 1. We first receive the order, we were invited. We are not the ones who start building such infrastructure projects and say: hello, we are already at the water’s edge. Of course not. We were asked to build, huge amounts of money were invested, and when everything is built, two branches are under pressure, gas can begin to be supplied today. But it is not put into operation because it is not certified,” Miller said.
In addition, Gazprom was forced to reduce pumping through Nord Stream 67 to 3 million m1 per day (half the daily norm).
“Today, all gas turbine engines at Nord Stream are manufactured by Siemens. But any gas turbine engine has a time between overhauls, after which it must be sent for major repairs. Factory history. Siemens has one plant in Canada.
Canada is the only country that has adopted sanctions against Gazprom. Siemens did not supply the turbines to the factory, but cannot take them back. And now other engines have reached the point of major overhaul, and they can no longer be sent to Canada. As of today, there is no solution to the Portovaya compressor station. Siemens is silent for now,” Miller explained the situation.
As a result, Gazprom reduces supply volumes to Europe by several tens of millions of cubic meters.
“Only prices have risen not by tens of percent, but by several times. Excuse me, but if I say that we are not offended by anyone, then I won’t cheat, ”summed up Miller.
