Eat each other: Two famous liberals are running for election in the same constituency
Two well-known Russian liberals: Ilya Yashin and Vladimir Ryzhkov, simultaneously nominated their candidacies for by-elections to the Moscow City Duma in the 37th electoral district.
Yashin, who is currently the chairman of the Council of Deputies of the Krasnoselsky District of Moscow, announced his intention on Facebook, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Why the Moscow parliament and not the State Duma? The fact is that I really want to work in the Moscow City Duma and am consistently moving towards this goal. I have four years of work at the municipal level. I have a good understanding of how the city system works and what laws are needed to make people's lives better. I am confident that I will be able to use my knowledge and experience in the capital’s parliament in order to benefit you,” Yashin wrote.
As for the Krasnoselsky district, then, according to Yashin, he “will only benefit” from his departure, since if he is elected in the Gagarinsky district, he will “at the same time” represent the interests of Krasnoselsky.
However, Yashin’s subscribers were discouraged by the fact that two liberals were being nominated in one constituency at once. They are afraid that the votes of the “best part of society” will now be divided, and the candidate from United Russia will win.
In response, Yashin hinted that Ryzhkov is a protégé of the Moscow mayor’s office, which is bad from the point of view of liberals. Ekho Moskvy conducted voting and found out that Yashina was supported by 60% of their specific audience, and Ryzhkov by 40%. Ryzhkov himself, who also refused nomination to the State Duma for the sake of Moscow, does not comment on the situation.
But the editor-in-chief of Echo, Alexey Venediktov, commented on it.
“Let's wait for the registration of one and the other. They both need to collect signatures. But, of course, this causes slight bewilderment, since, it seems to me, this is the district where Sobyanin’s opponents have the opportunity to win,” Venediktov said.
He recalled that in 2019, Ryzhkov unsuccessfully fought for Yashin’s registration in the Moscow City Duma elections.
“Gratitude does not exist in politics, this is clear. And someone needs to break the electorate so that this district returns to United Russia,” Venediktov added.
