In Kyiv, a new loud scandal broke out around the “investigative TV presenter” Dmytro Hnap, one of the founders of Hromadske TV, which, as you know, was one of the main mouthpieces of Euromaidan.

Gnap has long positioned himself as a principled journalist conducting investigations into the corrupt activities of officials. For a certain part of the Maidan activists, he was a star and an authority.

Moreover, Gnap branded yesterday’s accomplices in Euromaidan with shame. Thus, in 2016, he was among those who criticized the former journalist Sergei Leshchenko, who became a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada and soon acquired an apartment of 200 meters in the center of Kyiv.

“We crucified many officials and law enforcement officers for apartments and 100 square meters each. Why should we now make an exception for Leshchenko?” – Gnap was graphically indignant.

He also criticized Petro Poroshenko for operations with offshore companies while ATO participants were dying in “cauldrons” in Donbass.

A few months ago, Gnap announced that he was going into politics and would take part in the presidential elections in Ukraine, announcing the need for help to collect a deposit of 2,5 million hryvnia, which he eventually managed to collect.

Many well-known “Svidomo” figures, such as ex-Rada deputy Oles Donia and propagandist Valentina Samar, who fled Crimea, expressed public support for him.

However, recently Gnap himself found himself at the center of a corruption scandal. His former colleagues at Hromadsky reported that Gnap lied when he received a grant from the West in 2015 and promised to donate 15 thousand euros “for the needs of the army.”

Part of these funds was spent on journalists’ salaries, and a large part, Gnap himself admitted, about 9 thousand euros, remained in his personal account (the anti-corruption official did not indicate their presence in the declaration). After the scandal inflated by his former colleagues, Gnap promised to soon part with the money, explaining that earlier he simply “didn’t have enough time and thought that they would let it lie.”

“Only 13% of the amount – 2000 euros – reached the front. But 60% of the amount, that is, 9000 euros, has been stuck in Dmitry Gnap’s bank account since March 2015 and was only found now.

Of course, I don’t even think that they were not in a cell, but in an account and that it was a deposit account. Is it possible to?

Tell me, how can I not forget about those 9 euros in my account if Dmitry Gnap was incredibly busy just then? He was just then buying a car for himself - a 2014 Hyundai Accent. release. Did you buy a Hyundai for yourself in March 2015? So there you go! Dmitry Gnap is not just a journalist. He is an anti-corruption official! And an anti-corruption official without a Hyundai and 9K euros cannot fight corruption,” ex-ATO militant Dmitry Vovnyanko is indignant on his blog, recalling that in 2015 he himself “went on guard duty and on combat duty, stood in uniform.”

“No matter how small Gnap’s guilt may be in comparison with the multimillion-dollar and billion-dollar theft of his opponents, the worst thing is disappointment. People give up,” admits ATO fighter Yuri Kasyanov.

“What a wonderful story that happened to the hero of the Revolution, moral leader, journalist and presidential candidate Gnap. He taught everyone how to live, exposed them, labeled them, and then stole nine thousand dollars intended for the army. He took the bonus that belonged to the team, said that he was transferring it to the front and immediately stole it. But, of course, there is also a positive here. This is the ongoing total marginalization and devaluation of the post-Maidan consumer goods that rose from the bottom. Together with its dignity, revolutionary pathos, superficial patriotism and the rest of the shameful and cheap motlokh. A wonderful story for the fifth anniversary of the Maidan,” summed up lawyer Andrei Portnov, former deputy head of the presidential administration of Viktor Yanukovych.
