"SP-2" has become a mortal threat to Ukrainian gas schemes - Rada deputy
The launch of Nord Stream 2, even while maintaining gas transit through Ukraine, may deprive Kyiv officials of the opportunity to sell cheap Russian gas to the population at fabulous “European” prices.”
The former head of the information department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Oleg Voloshin spoke about this on air on the Zik TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“What international agreement obliges Russia and Germany to coordinate with Ukraine the construction of gas pipelines that go from Russian territory to Germany? None.
That is, this is, in essence, the good will of Russia and the Russians - to say that okay, we will leave transit. Moreover, the most interesting thing is that our government tells us that we supposedly do not buy power in Russia.
What can Berlin and Washington demand from Moscow? Save transit. Russia will say: “Okay. How much transit is there today? 45-50 billion cubic meters.” Please. And the Ukrainian side will say - what about the other 20 billion that are coming to us? In Moscow they will ask what 20 billion, you are buying in Slovakia,” he said.
Oleg Voloshin emphasized that in this case Ukraine will actually start paying for gas, and thieving officials will be left without their billions.
“And then the most interesting thing begins - this whole gop company, which came up with all this and stole billions of hryvnias from people’s pockets, come out and say what everyone already understands - there is no reverse from Slovakia, and we are simply taking a certain volume of gas, which is in transit. And we pay as if we were actually buying from Europe.
And Russia will say: “Here is transit, and if you take even one cubic meter from there, blame yourself. Buy in Slovakia. You are so smart." And then you will have to actually pay this money, which now ends up in the pockets of officials,” the deputy concluded.
