The publication notes that the press service of the Greek Coast Guard stated that the Ukrainian ship was detained in a port on the island of Crete.
“A cargo ship flying the Ukrainian flag with seven crew members - citizens of Ukraine, who, according to the captain, were on a flight from Montenegro to Lebanon, was towed due to a mechanical failure early in the morning to the port of Paleochora of Chania,” the Greek department said. “This ship was carrying a large quantity of cigarettes, the legality of the cargo is being examined by Chania customs.”
At the same time, writes RG, the Ukrainian side insists that the crew of “097” themselves turned to the port of Paleochora, and the stop was related solely to mechanical damage and the need for repairs.
Earlier on the Ukrainian border A cigarette smuggler was detained who was trying to smuggle illegal goods into the EU on a motorized hang glider.
