SOC: “An act of aggression by the Albanian police on ethnic grounds occurred in the north of Kosovo”
The Rasko-Prizren diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church, which cares for Kosovo and Metohija, called on international structures to protect the Serbs of the region from the arbitrariness of the local Albanian police.
The corresponding statement was posted on the diocesan website, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The Raš-Prizren diocese called for a pacification of the situation in northern Kosovo and for the urgent withdrawal of Pristina police forces from there, since their presence and brutal actions could escalate the situation.
“The use of force by the Kosovo Albanian police, especially firearms, is an open act of aggression against citizens based on ethnicity and threatens to cause enormous security instability,” said a statement posted on the diocese’s website. “In connection with the actions of the Kosovo police this morning in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, during which violence was used against Serbian citizens, the Diocese of Ra and Prizren expresses its deepest concern.”
The diocese called on the international occupation forces in Kosovo - KFOR and EULEX - to urgently ensure peace and order and protect citizens from aggressive behavior of the police, and the citizens themselves to show maximum restraint.
