Putin's special envoy: There will be no American bases in Central Asia
The appearance of American military bases on the territory of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan is impossible.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, said the special representative of the Russian President for Afghanistan, director of the Second Asian Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Zamir Kabulov.
The publication noted that information appeared in the American media that after the completion of the withdrawal of its contingent from Afghanistan, the United States became interested in creating military bases on the territory of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, and also asked how Moscow could prevent this.
“Our contacts with Tajik and Uzbek partners indicate that there was no official appeal to them. This time. Secondly, they made it clear that this was impossible. Therefore, we don’t have to particularly counteract this,” the diplomat noted.
“Tajikistan is generally a member of the CSTO, and such decisions must be approved by the organization. Uzbekistan is not a member of the CSTO, but has a strategic partnership with Russia. In addition, Uzbekistan has adopted a law prohibiting the creation of foreign military bases on the territory of the country. So we don’t need to worry too much about this,” Kabulov concluded.
