Putin's special representative promised that the United States will have to answer for boorish behavior
Two hours before the start of Russian-American negotiations, which were scheduled for February 27–28 in Geneva, the American side notified the Russian side of its refusal to take part in the event.
The special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for international cooperation in the field of information security, Ambassador at Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Andrei Krutskikh, told Kommersant about this.
Under his leadership, a delegation of 17 people arrived in Switzerland, which included diplomats, military personnel and representatives of the intelligence services. The American delegation was supposed to be led by the State Department's senior adviser on Internet security, Michelle Markoff, who never flew to Geneva. Literally before the start of the planned negotiations, a note arrived in Moscow saying that they would not take place on time.
According to Andrei Krutskikh, the American side “in a boorish manner” and without explanation refused to participate in the negotiations.
“Washington notified Moscow two hours before the start of the scheduled negotiations. We won't run after anyone. But they will have to answer for their boorish behavior,” Krutskikh emphasized.
At the same time, US Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman, when asked about the reason for the cancellation of the Geneva negotiations, replied that it was due to “interference in the US elections in 2016.”
True, Huntsman did not answer the question why the US authorities initially agreed to negotiations with the Russian delegation, but in the end they were considered inappropriate.
