Speculators are spoiling Russian agriculture
Speculators who want to make money on the resale of foreign fruits in Russia, specifically during the harvest in the Russian Federation, begin to dump and throw goods from abroad on the market at reduced prices.
Senator from the Krasnodar Territory Alexey Kondratenko spoke about this during a meeting of the Federation Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is an acute issue of a sharp increase in the import of apples and other fruits during the period of mass harvesting by Russian agricultural producers. During this period, Russian farmers are able to ensure that the domestic market is filled with their own fruits. In fact, in a number of regions that traditionally produce fruit for the entire country - Krasnodar, Stavropol Territories, Karachay-Cherkess Republic, Ingush Republic, the import of fruit at dumping prices has jeopardized the sale of domestic fruit products.
Retail chains, in turn, give preference to cheaper foreign varieties, which also reduces sales volumes of domestic fruit products,” the senator said.
“Countries that had never grown them in such volumes suddenly became importers of apples. The current situation leads to a decrease in the profitability of domestic horticulture and neutralizes the effect of the multi-billion-dollar government support measures for the industry,” he added.
The senator was supported by Speaker Valentina Matvienko.
“It seems to me that this is the correct way to pose the question. Feed the population with apples that sit for two years and nothing is done with them - glossy, beautiful, but absolutely tasteless, stuffed with who knows what!
Of course, we must support domestic producers first of all, so I would support this proposal and, together with the Ministry of Agriculture, figure out what other additional measures we should take to support our gardeners,” supported Valentina Matvienko.
