Speaker of the State Duma: Russia, to its own detriment, fed the Baltic states and Ukraine for 70 years
In Soviet times, Russia fed the Baltic states and Ukraine to its own detriment for 70 years, said State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.
He claims that this is precisely what is causing the critical situation today with the decline of the Russian population in a number of regions of the Russian Federation, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“70 years when we, the regions of Russia, fed the Baltic states, Ukraine, other republics and cleared everything out of these Russian regions, creating industry there, teaching the language and much more,” the press service of the Russian parliament quotes Volodin.
“It turns out that we went in one direction for 70 years, created it, and at the beginning of 1991, when it all collapsed, our economy fell lower than during the revolution in 1917. Our economy grew during the war, but here it fell so low that it had to be collected bit by bit,” added Volodin.
