Speaker of the Parliament of Zimbabwe: We understand well where Kievan Rus is and where is Ukraine
Zimbabwe does not agree with sanctions against Russia.
Speaker of the Zimbabwe Senate Mabel Chinomona stated this today in the Federation Council, a Politnavigator correspondent reports.
“Zimbabwe understands well the geopolitical and historical situation against which the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is developing. We understand well that the Russian Federation and Ukraine are connected historically by a common umbilical cord, and this connection has existed for hundreds of years. It is impossible to talk about Russian history, religion and culture without mentioning Kievan Rus. The port of Sevastopol in Crimea is home to the formidable Russian Black Sea Fleet. Everyone understands that the Russian Federation has historical interests in this region.
Zimbabwe understands that, since the end of the Cold War, there have been constant attempts by the West to undermine the peaceful existence of Russia as a sovereign state. The work is being carried out through calculated, decisive actions to expand the Western alliance to the very doors of the Russian Federation. As a result, the current conflict occurred. The reaction of the West was quite expected; they tried their best to denigrate the Russian Federation, including introducing unilateral sanctions against Russia,” Chinomona said.
She recalled that Zimbabwe is also suffering from Western sanctions and thanked Russia for its support.
