Speaker of the Russian Orthodox Church: The Patriarchate of Constantinople is actually “Washington”
More than half of all Orthodox Christians in the world are believers of the Russian Orthodox Church, which unites believers from 15 countries.
Chairman of the Synodal Department for Relations of the Church with Society and the Media of the Moscow Patriarchate, Vladimir Legoyda, stated this on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Patriarchate of Constantinople, according to the most optimistic estimates, has 5 million 4 million believers. Mainly in North America,” Legoyda said.
According to him, US influence on the Patriarchate of Constantinople is carried out in two directions.
“One line is the diaspora itself, that is, the Greeks who live in the United States and may try to pursue their interests in church politics. And this influence is political. Sometimes those lines close,” Legoyda said.
