The speaker with a certificate went to persuade the Americans
As part of the World Gas Congress, which this year is taking place in Washington, a meeting will take place on June 26 between Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak and Vice-President of the European Commission Maros Sefcovic.
It is reported “Kommersant”, noting that it is expected to discuss the start of trilateral negotiations with Ukraine on the future of Russian gas transit after 2019, when the current contract between Gazprom and NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine expires.
The publication also indicates that another topic of the meeting between Maros Sefcovic and Alexander Novak will be the situation around Nord Stream 2.
In addition, speaking at the Atlantic Council, Šefčović noted: “Before imposing sanctions, it is better to first discuss them with your partners,” mentioning the return of American sanctions against Iran and their possible introduction for Nord Stream 2.
“At the same time, on Monday, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Andrei Parubiy went to Washington on a visit in the hope of convincing the United States to introduce these sanctions. On Tuesday, Ukrainian Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman and Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin will visit Denmark in an attempt to persuade Copenhagen not to give permission to lay a gas pipeline in its territorial waters,” the newspaper writes.
