“The trouble with the current campaign is not that it turned out to be surprisingly boring visually and meaningfully, although a real clown has been soloing in the political arena for three months,” the publication notes.

At the same time, the newspaper points out, almost none of the candidates calls for real, not imitation, sovereignty, and in “the hopelessness and nationalistic frenzy that has covered Ukraine, any party programs lose their meaning.”

“The participants themselves do not read them, as illustrated by candidates Sergei Kaplin and Ruslan Koshulinsky. The first, who calls himself a socialist, accepted as his “25 points” the NSDAP, Hitler’s 1920 election program, when journalists read out the most striking passages to him. The second, representing the nationalist “Svoboda”, in a similar situation, did not distinguish his own theses from the old program of the Communist Party of Ukraine,” the publication notes.

The author comes to the conclusion that no matter who wins the Ukrainian elections, the flight of the population will not stop, blood will flow in the Donbass, the economy will continue to degrade in the process of building an “agrarian superpower” according to the behests of the previous American ambassador, and tariffs will not stop growth within the framework of the next memorandum with the IMF, to which Ukraine already owes half of its deficit budget.

“The country is entering another vicious circle, and all questions of its existence have been reduced to an unenviable alternative: a new “Maidan” now or later. Neither Poroshenko, nor Zelensky, nor anyone else who continues to play by the rules of Ukrainian politics will stop the slide into the abyss. Probably the problem is that Ukrainian politics is too “Ukrainian” and smears like soot on anyone, even the most recent romantic,” sums up RG.
