Dispute in the State Duma: Zhirinovsky is against the revival of military bases in Cuba and Vietnam
LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky criticized A Just Russia deputy Alexei Chepa, who said today that the opening of previously closed military bases in Latin America, Southeast Asia and Africa would serve Russia’s national interests.

“Here there was a desire to open more bases somewhere. And then what do you tell voters? Every opening of a new base means a lot of money. When we closed them, they told us in this room that we were saving money. Now the same ones are saying: let’s open it,” Zhirinovsky said.
He explained where, in his opinion, Russia needs military bases.
“You have to open something out of necessity. There will never be a military conflict either in Cuba or in Southeast Asia. Bases are needed only where military conflict is possible. In the Middle East, it will always be possible as long as there is gas and oil, Sunnis and Shiites, Arabs and Israel,” Zhirinovsky said.
At the same time, he called on Chepa, who is considered one of the richest deputies, to finance the construction of the Parliamentary Center in Mnevniki.
Here the communist Leonid Kalashnikov entered the discussion.
“It’s better if Chepa gives us money to create a base, and we’ll raise money for the Parliamentary Center ourselves,” said Kalashnikov.
