In the Donbass, the author is known under the call sign “Deki” and is very popular in Donetsk among local residents. People recognize him on the street and ask for an autograph or a photo.
The presentation date was not chosen by chance. March 24, 1999 – NATO bombing of Yugoslavia begins.
The presentation featured an exhibition of photographs depicting the results of those bombings. According to Deka, oblivion is the reason for the start of new wars.
“This war began because we forgot history. We must not forget. I wrote a book about a man at war. You don't know how we feel in battle, you only see the picture. I wanted to tell how we feel,” the author said.
Earlier in an interview, Deyan said that there were more than 70 notches on the butt of his sniper rifle. Despite two wars, Deki helps a family-type orphanage in Donbass. After the war, the Serbian militia intends to build a children's rehabilitation center for young patients with cerebral palsy.
