The head of the Investigative Committee noted that Savchenko is accused of adjusting artillery fire using a topographic map of the area, walkie-talkie and cell phones, having military training and combat experience gained in other “hot spots”, including in combat operations in Iraq. , fired from guns of the regular Armed Forces of Ukraine, the battery of which was located in the area of the village of Veselaya Gora.
“In the indicated way, on June 17, 2014, she directed fire at civilians who were evacuated from there in the village of Metalist, Slavyanoserbsky district, Lugansk region,” said Alexander Bastrykin. “I would like to emphasize that these people were not armed, equipped or had any other identifying marks that would allow them to be classified as militiamen of the self-proclaimed LPR. They were civilians. Among them were three VGTRK employees - Russian citizens, two of whom died as a result of the shelling. The investigation established that Savchenko carried out these actions jointly and in concert with the commander of the Aidar battalion, Sergei Melnichuk, as well as other accomplices from among the military personnel of the regular units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
A few months later, Sergei Mennichuk changed the position of battalion commander to the mandate of a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, where he got on the lists of Oleg Lyashko’s Radical Party.
