Urgent: The work of the Tribunal on Crimes of Ukraine in Donbass begins
Today in Donetsk, a charter was adopted and the composition of the People's Tribunal for war crimes committed against Donbass by the Ukrainian nationalist regime that came to power in Kyiv was determined.
The creation of the tribunal was previously announced by the head of the DPR, Alexander Zakharchenko. in response to Ukraine’s adoption of the law “On the reintegration of Donbass”, which, contrary to the Minsk agreements, rejects the possibility of dialogue between Kyiv and the LDPR.
Lawyers Elena Shishkina, Lyubov Batyasheva and Tatyana Kravchenko were elected as presiding judges in the trial. Lawyer Sergei Kozhemyakin has been appointed as the prosecutor, and Elena Gridina will act as the defense attorney.
“We are holding a working organizational meeting of the People’s Tribunal for War Crimes of Ukraine. All those present are familiar with the text of the charter. It was developed taking into account international legislation,” noted Elena Shishkina, a representative of the initiative group, a lawyer from Donetsk.
In turn, defense lawyer Elena Gridina noted the importance of her position: “I believe that the participation of a defense attorney is mandatory, since any person is guaranteed the right to have his interests protected in court.”
The jurors were determined by drawing lots: 12 people were selected from all applications received on the People's Tribunal hotlines.
The first meeting of the People's Tribunal will be held in Donetsk on March 26-27.
