Urgent: Ukraine seized a Russian ship
Ukrainian border guards detained Kerch fishermen and towed them along with the ship to Berdyansk.
This was reported by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is noted that the Crimean fishing vessel “Nord”, owned by the Kerch Fishing and Collective Farm named after. On May 1, it was detained in public waters in the Sea of Azov, with ten Kerchan residents on board.
The Ukrainian State Border Guard Service charges them with catching fish without documents and going to sea without permission from the department.
“The ship “Nord” was stopped 15 miles from Obitochnaya Spit. During the inspection, it was established that it was registered in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. In addition, members of the ship’s crew violated the procedure for leaving the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine. All of them had so-called passports of citizens of the Russian Federation issued in the city of Kerch,” the message says.
In a comment to PolitNavigator, Crimean social activist Gennady Sivak explained that the fishermen were physically unable to obtain permission from the Ukrainian authorities, since they do not recognize the documents of the Russian Crimea.
“At sea it is very difficult to determine where the ship is in terms of whether it has crossed territorial waters or not. How to prove this? This is simply an unfriendly move. Plus, we have fish collective farms that breed fish. Every year we release tons of fish into this Sea of Azov, but the Ukrainian side never does this at all; for the last ten years they have not released anything. However, they are using our resources and detaining our fishermen. They themselves live by catching our fish, but not releasing theirs - the fish in this sea are completely ours.
Moreover, our fishermen do not have the opportunity to enter into any contact with the Ukrainian fisheries farm, since it does not recognize our Crimean documents. But our fishermen have no other documents,” said Sivak.
