The disruption of the elections in Mariupol nullified all of Poroshenko’s “efforts” to hold elections according to Ukrainian legislation in the DPR and LPR, since it showed the inability of the authorities to organize them even in the territory controlled by Ukraine. Political scientist Alexey Tolkachev stated this on the News One TV channel.

“Using the example of Mariupol and Krasnoarmeysk, where elections did not take place on Ukrainian-controlled territory, we see the absurdity of the intentions of Poroshenko’s peace plan to hold elections under Ukrainian law on the territory of the DPR and LPR, where we control nothing at all,” Tolkachev said.
