Kyiv, November 25 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Raichenko) – The SS has nothing to do with fascism.
This opinion was voiced during a round table on the topic “Measuring patriotism in football: the culture of fans” by the press attaché of the Ukrainian national football team, Alexander Glivinsky, who did not agree with the presence of Nazi symbols in Ukrainian stadiums, which had previously been pointed out by international organizations, in particular FARE ( Football against racism in Europe).

According to him, in conditions when “Ukraine is waging a national liberation struggle,” the slogans “Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!”, “Ukraine above all,” “Glory to the nation” are perceived differently today.
“We still have to conquer and defend our symbols,” Gliwinsky emphasized. – This is a trident and a blue and yellow flag, this is Roman Shukhevych and Stepan Bandera, because we still have to prove that they are not fascists, although they have never been fascists. This is a consequence of 70 years of propaganda that stained us, when Ukrainians were exterminated during the Holodomor and later, and we still have to wash ourselves clean.”
The representative of the national team believes that there were practically no grounds for UEFA’s decision to disqualify the Lviv stadium for the use of Nazi symbols.
“If we are talking about the symbol of the SS division “Galicia” (one of the Waffen-SS divisions of Nazi Germany, formed from Ukrainians under the command of German officers. – ed.), then these are Sich Riflemen, and not the German SS, says Glivinsky. – This, of course, needs to be conveyed so that these things disappear from the FARE list. Just like the images of Bandera, Shukhevych, the red and black flag of the OUN. This is the history of our country, not the history of fascism.”
