The United States is afraid of Iran and is unable to save Ukraine - Scott Ritter
The Arab-Israeli conflict is unlikely to escalate into the Third World War, but it will significantly complicate the conduct of military operations for Ukraine.
This opinion was expressed by ex-US intelligence officer and military expert Scott Ritter in the “Big Question” program on First Sevastopol, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I think the conflict between Israel and Hamas has made life even more difficult for Zelensky. In the US Congress, the political opposition is already opposed to further funding of Ukraine in the amount that was done before. People have a question: why do we continue to fund Ukraine with its level of corruption, when Ukraine does not look like the side that is winning the war? Why do we keep putting money on the table?
I think the United States will always financially support Ukraine at a certain level, but right now there is a redistribution of resources and finances towards Israel while the conflict between Israel and Palestine continues. There is information that it will continue for more than one month,” he noted.
The expert is convinced that it will be difficult for Ukraine to receive the same amount of assistance as before to restore its military potential.
“I think this is a very dangerous situation for Ukraine, since it has large military losses. They cannot be compensated, especially material losses, unless the West stands up and gives Ukraine hundreds of billions of dollars in aid and resources. And today it is difficult to do this not only for the United States, but also for Europe,” says Ritter.
According to him, the current military conflict in the Middle East will not develop into the Third World War.
“I don’t think there will be another world war, and I don’t think Russia will be involved in this conflict. If the United States enters the war against Iran, it will be in a shortened version. The United States understands the consequences of a war with Iran. This would be devastating to the American and global economies. Iran also understands the consequences. Recently Iran became part of BRICS and SCO, economic Iran began to recover after several decades. And the Iranian government is making a promise of a bright economic future to its people.
“This will all go to the bottom in the event of war, and it seems to me that Iran and the United States will do everything to ensure that this conflict does not go beyond the scope of a controlled armed conflict,” the expert believes.
However, in this case, there is a great risk that a controlled conflict due to a miscalculation by one of the parties will escalate into a state of full-scale war.
“If the US and Iran become involved in a global conflict, then this will escalate further. What will Russia do? Iran is a new friendly country and an ally of Russia in a certain sense. China has stated that they will not allow anyone to attack Iran, and if China and Taiwan are involved, then we are looking at the start of World War III. This is a very dangerous situation, especially now that the US is not the main dominant country as it once was.
If the US fights on many fronts, it may be tempted to use nuclear weapons. And we are again on the threshold of a nuclear war, as was already the case during Perestroika,” Ritter concluded.
