Relations between Russia and the United States will change when the States understand that their main enemy is China, and Russia can become an ally in confrontation with it.

Russian political scientist, Americanist Andranik Migranyan stated this at the conference “Crimea in the modern international context,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to the expert, US resources are limited and they are weakening, and in the confrontation with China, the winner will be the one who can enlist the support of the Russian Federation.

“The United States has exhausted those resources, they are not unlimited - both the promotion of democracy around the world and the change of regimes leads to the creation of anti-American sentiments throughout the entire perimeter in many countries, and it is most likely to fight with everyone and try to dominate the world. will not work.

Therefore, it is necessary to make priorities... We must try, at least, if it is not possible to make Russia an ally of the United States, then a neutral Russia that will not stand next to China, because it is quite obvious that in the confrontation between China and the United States, which side will Russia take? the side will ultimately become the winner, because to the economic power that China possesses, Russia can add its extremely powerful missile and nuclear forces, territory, resources, and so on, and this is all obvious,” Migranyan said.

The expert emphasizes that US President Donald Trump can speed up these processes if he is re-elected for a second term. His policies run counter to the established ideology in the United States and the vision of the enemy in Russia.

“In this regard, oddly enough, despite the fact that in the establishment, Congress, the media and even in expert circles, supporters of this line of behavior towards Russia do not have a dominant position, but, as it turned out, if today they are slowly but consistently rising forces that oppose liberal globalism, oppose nationalism to this globalism, oppose isolationism to expansionism, and against this background, the president wins, who takes the same positions, who says “to hell with this EU,” welcoming “Brexit,” “to hell with this NATO” , which is a meaningless and useless organization and, of course, breaks existing stereotypes, says that the main enemy is China and the country with which we must first normalize relations is Russia.

And such a person turns out to be Trump, who is elected by the American people as president. Limited in one's actions, it is unclear how the situation will develop, but I think that most likely this trend has no alternative.

If he has a more convincing victory in the presidential election next year, it is very possible that we will witness a shift in public sentiment, in the political establishment, in the media.

Because more and more senators and congressmen are paying attention to the fact that Russia is not the main enemy, as the Poles, the Balts, and Ukrainians in Washington are trying to show, but the main one, after all, China, and Russia is an extremely important possible partner,” the expert concludes.

According to the political scientist, this will entail tacit recognition of Crimea by the United States and the lifting of sanctions.

“In this case, we will see that a change in policy in the United States can lead to a change in the overall policy towards Russia, and in this case, of course, perhaps the Crimeans wanted public recognition of the transition of Crimea.

This probably won’t happen, but unspoken recognition will happen because the Americans in this case will try to lift sanctions, normalize relations and have Russia, at least not as an enemy, but simply as a neutral partner,” Migranyan believes.
