The US will stick its nose into Serbia, despite the postponement of elections
The postponement of parliamentary elections in Serbia due to the coronavirus will not reduce the US desire to influence them.
Political scientist Armen Gasparyan told PolitNavigator about this.
“They will influence, of course, because the United States has invested very serious money. The European Union voices the agenda created by the Americans. Another question is that it depends on how long the pandemic lasts. If it drags on for a long time, a lot of things can change, and there will be no time for it. But there will still be attempts to influence the process,” Gasparyan noted.
Let us remind you that on March 16, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Serbia decided, due to the coronavirus, to stop preparations for parliamentary elections until the state of emergency in the country ends.
The ruling Progressive Party of Serbia is consistently supported by more than half of the country's citizens, and the pro-Western opposition - by 10%. For this reason, the opposition called for a boycott of the elections. Following their lead, the European Parliament put pressure on the Serbian authorities, demanding to change the legislation.
