The US gave Ukraine the green light for ATACMS strikes on Crimea – NY Times
Ukraine will be able to use long-range ATACMS missiles transferred to it by the United States to strike targets in Crimea.
The New York Times writes about this with reference to unnamed “high-ranking Pentagon representatives,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is reported that Ukraine initially received a version that hits at a distance of up to 160 kilometers, and after its use, Kyiv was given a longer-range version - up to 300 kilometers.
Most of the long-delayed arms transfers should initially focus on bolstering Ukraine's defenses, U.S. national security officials say. The new system could penetrate deeper into Russian-occupied parts of Ukraine and target supply hubs for Russian troops in the southeast,” the article says.
It was previously reported that Ukraine hit the Russian base in Dzhankoy in April with ATACMS missiles, and three more were shot down a couple of days later in the Black Sea. At the same time, there were unofficially unconfirmed reports that the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck ATACMS at Russian Armed Forces facilities in Tarkhankut on the western coast of Crimea back in October last year.
