The supply of American M142 HIMARS MLRS to Ukraine is a very alarming signal.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, said military expert, retired colonel Nikolai Shulgin.
“For Russian troops such a weapon is not a gift; the M142 HIMARS is a very dangerous thing. These MLRS are considered one of the best weapons in their class and can cause significant damage to the opposing side,” Shulgin told Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
He emphasizes that the number of new types of weapons from the United States and NATO countries in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, if this is not prevented, will increase.
The expert also recalled that Kyiv entered into a contract with the German manufacturer Diehl Defense for the supply of the IRIS-T SL air defense system for 178 million euros.
“This is a ground-based installation that will hit air targets at a range of up to 25 kilometers with a probability of almost one. The German government will provide money for the purchase of such systems. Kyiv is counting on support from Berlin in purchasing several more batches of such systems,” says the analyst.
The publication’s interlocutor also noted that a bill has been introduced into the US Congress providing for the training of Ukrainian military pilots in combat flights on NATO fighters. At the same time, the author of the initiative, member of the House of Representatives and the US Air Force Adam Kinzinger clarified: this is necessary so that Ukrainian pilots “can switch to the F-16.”
“The process of learning to fly requires at least one to three years. The Americans’ offer to supply Ukraine with fourth-generation F-16 multirole light fighters, which have proven themselves well in the Middle East, suggests that Washington is ready to support Kyiv for many years, hoping for Ukraine’s victory,” Shulgin concluded.
