The US is preparing a “doomsday” argument for the Germans against Nord Stream 2
The Americans, building a policy of pressure on German companies over the construction of Nord Stream 2, can take advantage of the vulnerability of the EU as a participant in a joint collective security system with the United States.
Anastasia Likhacheva, deputy director of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, stated this during a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Can the Americans find some weak points, primarily in Germany, in order to increase their pressure so much that German companies refuse to cooperate with Russians in the construction of Nord Stream 2, or will the Europeans take an independent position?” – asked the conference moderator.
“The Europeans, of course, will take an independent position, which does not prevent the Americans from finding very sensitive points in order to either withdraw them from this position or systematically withdraw them. Because let’s not forget that Europe does not ensure its security on its own, it is a participant in the collective security system, and this is the most important and deepest factor in the interaction between the United States and the EU countries.
Naturally, this will already be a “doomsday” argument in relations between the United States and its European partners, but this argument exists,” Likhacheva said.
