The US is preparing sanctions against Rosneft
American authorities intend to quickly consider imposing sanctions against individuals and companies supporting the Venezuelan government.
Kommersant writes about this, specifying that one of the victims could be the Rosneft company and related enterprises that help Caracas sell oil.
The reason for speeding up the process was the transfer to prison from house arrest of six senior employees of the oil company Citgo (a subsidiary of the Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA), who were arrested for corruption.
The newspaper's sources close to American lawmakers said that the US Congress initially planned to begin considering new sanctions against Russia - in particular, the DASKA law - around the end of March or beginning of April, but now the process will be “significantly accelerated.” The Russian company Rosneft may be subject to restrictive measures.
However, the American authorities are aware of the seriousness of the global consequences of including Rosneft in the sanctions lists, therefore, according to sources, this is possible in the event of some sudden movements on the part of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
Russian financial institutions that even provide indirect support to Venezuela may also be subject to sanctions.
It is noteworthy that Rosneft previously managed to avoid American restrictions.
As PolitNavigator reported, in Germany it is believed that a common mechanism for circumventing US sanctions will bring Europe and Russia closer
