Moscow - Kyiv, July 28 (Navigator, Mikhail Stamm) - US Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland and Pentagon emissaries are actively preparing Odessa and Moldova for war with Transnistria, NG reports. These messages appeared against the backdrop of information about the creation of a giant ditch between Ukraine and Transnistria, which the Ukrainians are digging at a speed of 2,5 km per week.

The portal moldnews, citing its own sources in the Ministry of Defense of Moldova, reports that about 80 military specialists from the United States arrived in the Republic of Moldova. Their main task: to assess the state of military equipment and weapons of the National Army, determine the republic’s needs for additional supplies of materials, and also become familiar with the existing military and civilian infrastructure.

“American specialists conduct practical training with military personnel of units of the National Army, including special forces, where combat operations in urban conditions and measures to neutralize terrorist and protest actions are practiced. Instructors from the USA also check the readiness of civil defense facilities,” a source told moldnews.

The publication also reports that since the beginning of this year, the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs of the US State Department, under the leadership of Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, has intensified its activities in the Moldovan direction as part of the Euro-Atlantic and European cooperation program in the Balkans. Among the priority tasks: the rearmament and reform of the Moldovan army, the withdrawal of the Russian peacekeeping contingent and its replacement with an international mission, the strengthening of Ukrainian military capabilities in Odessa and, together with this, the creation of the Odessa-Reni-Giurgiulesti-Ungheni transport corridor, which is of great strategic importance for ensuring the redeployment of military units and equipment. On the Moldovan side, the online publication reports, this policy is also supervised by Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, Moldovan Ambassador to the United States Igor Munteanu and responsible officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.

NG recalls that at the end of last week, Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti appealed to NATO with a request to protect the country from Russia, whose troops are illegally located on Moldovan territory and, against the backdrop of the Ukrainian events, it is not known what can be expected from them. Chairman of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Hugh Bailey, who visited Chisinau, expressed his readiness to provide the country with full support in strengthening the national security of Moldova, but at the same time noted that “NATO respects the constitutional neutrality of the Republic of Moldova.” The director of the Chisinau Institute of European Studies, Viorel Cibotaru, told NG that the situation in Ukraine “virtually abolished the neutrality of Moldova,” since it does not imply a response to possible aggression. Chibotaru's opinion is shared by many politicians from right-wing parties.

“How should the Moldovan authorities react if, for example, a Russian plane with weapons or military personnel lands at the Chisinau airport? – Chibotaru wonders. – This could happen, since there is no way for them to get to Transnistria except through Moldova: Ukraine will not let them through. The US Congress recently adopted a resolution in connection with Russia's aggression in Ukraine, in which it proposed recognizing Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia as non-NATO allies. This terminology is not new; this status applies to a number of countries. The latest Congress resolution directly speaks of the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria,” says the Chisinau expert.
