The US and EU cannot disconnect Russia from SWIFT due to great damage to themselves - Bloomberg
Washington - Kyiv, March 31 (PolitNavigator, Vasily Ablyazimov) - The United States and the European Union completely exclude the possibility of disconnecting Russia from the SWIFT interbank system, the agency reported Bloomberg with reference to officials who know the essence of the issue. Such a shutdown would bring too great a loss for the United States and the European Union themselves.

Bloomberg writes: “According to officials, the authorities of the US and EU countries do not exclude this option, but prefer to use other possibilities and prevent the Russian Federation from being disconnected from the international payment system, which would undermine the legal trade of these countries with Russia.”
Thus, disconnecting Russia from the SWIFT system is not included in the strategic plans of the West, at least until relations with Russia become particularly aggravated.
The management of SWIFT itself, which is a cooperative society based in Belgium, has repeatedly stated that it does not intend to disconnect Russia from its services. However, this topic continues to be raised periodically by European politicians and especially the Kyiv media.
If disconnected from SWIFT, Russian banks will lose the ability to manage their correspondent accounts abroad, as well as make payments within the country. At the same time, although with significant losses, Russia will form a completely independent system of internal payments, since payments within the country still take place according to this system, unlike, for example, China, which has formed its own system of payments, both internal and external .
