The USA and Great Britain sharply opposed the united EU troops - they fear undermining NATO hegemony
London - Kyiv, March 10 (PolitNavigator, Vasily Ablyazimov) - On Sunday, the head of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker made an official proposal to create a united EU force. The reason for the creation of such troops, according to him, was the confrontation with Russia. However, today the US and UK report German economic news, came out sharply against such an initiative by Juncker.

Germany supported Juncker's idea. Federal Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen believes that peace in Europe can only be ensured with an independent EU army. “The idea of a unified European army is the idea of the future,” said von der Leyen.
However, the United States opposed the EU army more sharply than Russia, against which, according to Juncker's idea, it should be directed. The reason is, according to German Economic News, that the EU army will have a different organizational structure and a different command, not subordinate to NATO. It will operate independently of NATO, the general headquarters will be located in Brussels.
The creation of an EU army will weaken transatlantic relations. The EU will be able to carry out international missions completely independently of NATO.
In addition to the United States, Great Britain traditionally opposes the creation of an EU army. The implementation of this idea, writes the Telegraph, will be the “death knell” for NATO and, thus, transatlantic security. Washington and London are opposed to any development that could lead to an independent common “European defense identity,” German Economic News reports.
