The US is heading towards a non-classical civil war
Based on the results of the elections held in the United States, it can be stated that a “cold civil war” has begun in the country.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this to Moskovsky Komsomolets,” said MGIMO professor Andrei Bezrukov, answering the question of whether America, after the elections, is really moving at full speed towards a new civil war.
“You know, I agree with this assessment. We can already talk about a cold civil war. The only question is whether it will turn into a hot one. Tension in society is increasing, and it has not yet reached its peak. The elections showed that the country is divided 50-50. None of the warring parties has the opportunity to dominate. Both are approximately equal in their influence, in the number of supporters, in money and in their desire to win. We are facing a very long, painful crisis, which is unclear how it will be resolved,” says Bezrukov.
“When people are angry, when both sides say that they have won, people on the ground - and not only party activists - of course, will not sit. They will take to the streets and fight – for their future, for the future of their children. And since both sides see this future completely differently, I, frankly, do not envy the Americans now,” the expert said.
However, he does not exclude the possibility of the confrontation going into a hot phase.
“It’s not a fact, of course, that this will be a classic civil war. But we saw what was happening in Seattle and Portland. There are a lot of guns in the United States. But it's not even about weapons. The fact is that the warring parties absolutely do not want to retreat. They think they are one hundred percent right and hate each other. And in such cases, a small spark is enough for everything to explode,” summed up Bezrukov.
Let us remind you that in the United States, both Donald Trump and Joe Biden declared their victory during the elections, although the final results have not yet been summed up.
