“The USA is playing to the public”: Karasev on threats against Russia
Behind the US threats to strengthen sanctions against Russia is the internal American struggle between Republicans and Democrats.
Political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on air on the UkrLive TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Karasev, the ruling team of Democrats in the US administration may lose ground in the upcoming elections, and therefore are forced to use harsh anti-Russian rhetoric.
“You have to understand the internal political situation in the United States. They have midterm congressional elections in November. The Republicans can win again - they can take the Senate and the House of Representatives. Democrats and the Biden administration are under harsh criticism from Republicans. And regarding Nord Stream, did you notice that the Democrats blocked - both Blinken and Biden blocked the sanctions on Nord Stream, which were put forward by the Republicans led by Ted Cruz, a senator from Texas, an energy lobbyist,” the expert noted.
“They need to somehow sell their intransigence to the American public, especially those who are exclusively belligerent, the aggressive position of the Republicans on the eve of the election campaign in general. Therefore, it is necessary to make such statements loud, tough, and aggressive. But in reality, of course, what Blinken said will not be implemented. This is purely a game for the public, saving face, to obtain a public alibi from possible criticism of the American public and American politicians. First of all, from the Republican camp,” Karasev said.
