This is stated in their joint statement on the occasion of International Anti-Corruption Day on December 9, posted on the EU Delegation's Facebook page.
“We strongly encourage independent and reliable verification of electronic returns filed. We also expect that the Ukrainian authorities will ensure independence and adequate provision of resources to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU), the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) and the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NAPC),” the statement said.
The statement especially emphasized that it is very important that the competence and powers of these specialized departments are fully respected by all government institutions.
“We express our support for the creation of the High Anti-Corruption Court and are ready to provide assistance as this process unfolds. Independent and transparent selection of judges is of key importance,” the diplomats emphasized.
In addition, the statement from the embassies of Canada, the United States and the European Union calls for completing the process of creating the State Bureau of Investigation and the National Agency for the Search and Return of Assets Proceeded from Corruption Crimes, as well as accelerating the process of creating the financial police.
