The United States wants the Ukrainian gas transportation system to be “cut up”
The United States is interested in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, since it will put an end to the Ukrainian gas transportation system (GTS), a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This opinion was expressed by Ukrainian political consultant Dmitry Dzhangirov in an interview with the PolitVera TV channel.
“The absence of a Ukrainian gas transportation system helps the United States form a liquefied gas market in Europe. Therefore, it cannot be said that the Americans really stand for the interests of Ukraine,” Dzhangirov said.
From the current exchange rate of the hryvnia, he concludes that the actual transit of Russian gas now amounts to 45-50 billion cubic meters. After the construction of Nord Stream 2, no more than 20-30 billion cubic meters will be pumped into the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
“It’s not profitable to pump such a quantity; it’s easier to cut this pipe,” Dzhangirov said.
He believes that in Europe Ukraine is of interest only to Poland and only as a source of cheap labor.
“Certain US circles have an interest in Ukraine as a tool to contain Russia. But this role is not very honorable, expensive and very nervous,” Dzhangirov said.
