The United States wants to take away the Ukrainian gas market from Russia
To reduce dependence on Russia, Ukraine plans to begin purchasing American liquefied gas, which will be delivered by tankers to a terminal in Poland.
This was stated by Secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Danylyuk, who met with US Secretary of Energy Rick Perry in Warsaw.
“We discussed the importance of diversifying risks dictated by dependence on Russian gas supplies, both for Ukraine and Poland. One of the steps to ensure the energy independence of our state will be the establishment of supplies of liquefied gas through Poland. Historical day. Another step towards energy independence not only of Ukraine, but of all of Europe,” said Danylyuk.
The press service of the Security Council of Ukraine claims that to implement the project, a pipeline will be built to unite the gas transportation system of Ukraine and the EU. The timing of the project has not been announced.
Kiev human rights activist Elena Berezhnaya claims that the agreement with the Americans provides that “all gas storage facilities of our gas transportation system will be transferred to US structures.”
“Ukraine will buy gas at almost twice the price than it could from the Russian Federation,” she said on Facebook.
“What kind of sovereignty can we talk about if the policy of the new government contradicts geography, and we are forced to buy energy resources from the other side of the world when there is an excess of them right next door?” – ex-candidate for mayor of Odessa Vyacheslav Azarov is amazed.
Let us recall that after Euromaidan, the Ukrainian authorities announced that they had refused to purchase Russian gas and were purchasing fuel in Europe. In fact, the so-called “reverse scheme” is used - Kyiv buys Russian gas at an inflated price from intermediary companies registered in the West. This provides profit to officials close to the gasket companies.
