“The Embassy in Kyiv purchased and donated fuel pumps, wire barriers, batteries and car parts, binoculars and communications equipment for Ukrainian border guards so that they could use them to monitor and ensure border security,” RT quotes Pentagon spokesman Steve Warren.
According to him, the equipment was purchased directly from Ukraine “recently.”
US aid to Kyiv is now divided into two categories: those intended for the border service and for regular army units. Assistance for the army continues to flow through appropriate channels, a Pentagon spokesman said.
Previously, the Ministry of Defense reported that it was focused on supplying Ukrainians not with weapons, but with equipment, food and medicine.
Washington, which supports Kyiv’s military operation against supporters of a referendum on federalization in eastern Ukraine, regularly accuses Russia of escalating the situation, including in border regions. Moscow says that the Ukrainian army, together with neo-Nazis, is fighting against its own people.
