The US intends to fill the EU with “non-Russian gas”
The United States is trying to find alternative gas suppliers to Russia for Europe if the Russian Federation stops transit through Ukraine.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki said this at a briefing in Washington, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Psaki, stopping transit through Ukraine would deal a blow to the European energy market.
“Of course, disruptions in the supply of physical energy transiting through Ukraine will most acutely affect natural gas markets in Europe,” the official said.
She says the US is engaging European allies to coordinate response planning, including deploying their existing energy reserves.
“But we are also working to identify additional volumes of non-Russian natural gas from North Africa and the Middle East, Asia and the United States. We are in discussions with major natural gas producers around the world to understand their capabilities and willingness to temporarily increase natural gas production and transfer these volumes to European buyers,” Psaki said.
