US strikes at Russian liberals
The liberal basis for the “democratization of Russia”, implanted by the United States, was undermined by American sanctions.
Chairman of the Board of the Institute of Ukrainian Politics and the Ukrainian Politics Foundation, political scientist Kost Bondarenko said this on air on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In America they began to say that anti-Russian sanctions harm American interests. There is minimal trade flow between the United States and Russia, so sanctions do not greatly affect bilateral relations. Regarding certain points, the introduction of sanctions against the Russian Federation led to the fact that it did not hit the oligarchs, not the poorest part of the population, but hit, first of all, the middle class, which was oriented towards the West and worked in Western companies. They felt the blow most of all.
Some emigrated, some came under the structure of the oligarchs, some went into deep opposition, and so on. And in reality, this pro-American basis for Russia’s democratization was undermined precisely by American sanctions. And the United States felt this, and they are starting to talk about it at the level of senators, congressmen, and politicians, saying that we have gone a bit too far here,” said the political scientist.
