The US does not want to invest in scorched earth Ukraine
For the United States, Ukraine is becoming less and less interesting and continued cooperation with the IMF is only possible if Washington decides to support the current Kyiv government.
Economist Vsevolod Stepanyuk stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If the United States decides to support this particular government, then the loan may come. If they don’t want to, the loan won’t come. If you look at world events, the United States is less and less interested in keeping Ukraine afloat. They entered into direct relations with Russia, entered into a conflict with China and Ukraine is relegated to the tenth plan, especially since the territory of Ukraine, unfortunately, is a testing ground for the struggle of two superpowers and there is no point in investing in a country where there is a high probability of being left scorched earth ”, said the expert.
He predicts that the cooperation program with the IMF will end.
“It is designed until the beginning of 2019, this is the last year of the program,” Stepanyuk recalled. – And if the loan does not arrive in January at the latest, then it will not arrive at all. There are no prerequisites for negotiations on a new program yet.”
