The US declared Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia “military allies” without NATO
Moscow - Kyiv, July 18 (Navigator, Mikhail Stamm) - The American Congress adopted in two readings at once a law granting Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia the status of “US allies” without their joining NATO. The law opens up broad opportunities for Washington's cooperation with these countries in the military field.

The Law “On the Prevention of Aggression,” adopted by Congress in the first and second readings, allows a number of post-Soviet countries to be granted the status of “military allies of the United States” without their formal entry into NATO. It establishes a trial period during which Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova must implement defense reform and be prepared to cooperate more closely with the United States in the military-technical field.
Congressmen recommend that the US President immediately strengthen cooperation in the field of defense with post-Soviet states. No later than 90 days after the adoption of the law, the Secretary of State and the head of the Pentagon must begin preparations for negotiations with Georgia and a number of other countries “to strengthen existing and develop new cooperation in the field of defense, including cybersecurity.”
“The decision of the congressmen is very important,” Irakli Aladashvili, editor-in-chief of the military-analytical magazine Arsenali, told Kommersant. “It is caused primarily by the fact that some European states are blocking the provision of Georgia with a “road map” for joining NATO, and many Capitol Hill doesn't like it."
