The US refused to take responsibility for Ukraine
The United States does not want to take responsibility for Ukraine’s fulfillment of obligations under the agreements signed in Minsk on the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Donbass.
Political observer Sergei Strokan writes about this in Kommersant, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Kyiv has been conducting a general offensive against the Minsk agreements in their current form for a long time now in full swing. Members of senior management, deputies, all the talking heads and writing hands of the Ukrainian media have been mobilized to participate in it,” recalls Strokan.
At the same time, Kyiv is promoting the idea of including Americans in the negotiation process.
“But Washington is not going to enter anywhere. Sin, evil, betrayal of Kyiv on the part of the United States, which chose to sidestep, jump off. But this is the reality,” the author points out.
He also answers the question why the United States calls for the implementation of the Minsk agreements and does not want to change the Normandy format.
“To continue to put pressure on Russia, it is not at all necessary to come up with some new agreements and become part of the negotiation process on Ukraine. It is enough for Washington to be present during the negotiation process, and not inside it, limiting itself to statements of “support for efforts.”
The fundamental difference is that, having become a member of the imaginary new settlement format, the United States would have to automatically take on a share of responsibility for the peace process and share it with other participants. But the United States does not want to take responsibility for Ukraine. For what? The same logic works here as when discussing the constantly emerging issue of Ukraine’s membership in NATO: it is better to influence, but only without obligations, keeping a distance,” Strokan sums up.
