The US refused to trade Ukraine for the Middle East
The Ukrainian direction turned out to be more important for the United States than the Middle East. This was stated today at a press conference in Moscow by the chairman of the presidium of the non-governmental organization “Council on Foreign and Defense Policy” Fyodor Lukyanov.

“A year ago it was believed that Syria and the Middle East were more important for the American administration, and Ukraine could be a subject of exchange. This year we have seen exactly the opposite. The feeling is that, having become convinced of Russia’s effectiveness, the United States has decided to step aside in the Middle East. Ukraine, on the contrary, has become important. Domestic political interests converge here,” Lukyanov said, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
For this reason, the analyst believes, hopes for the effectiveness of Russian-American negotiations on Donbass are “shaky.” The situation is complicated by the fact that Europe has “gone into the shadows” in the Ukrainian direction. This is due to political instability in the leading EU countries, the expert explained.
