US Air Force strategic bombers this month practiced a possible nuclear strike against Russia.
This was stated by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu during a video conference with his Chinese counterpart Wei Fenghe, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We note the significant activation of American strategic bomber aircraft near the borders of Russia. Over the past month, about 30 flights have been made to the borders of the Russian Federation, which is 2,5 times more than in the corresponding period last year.
This month, during the US strategic forces exercise Global Thunder, 10 strategic bombers practiced the option of using nuclear weapons against Russia almost simultaneously from the western and eastern directions. The minimum distance from our border was 20 kilometers,” Shoigu said.
He clarified that there is now “a significant increase in the number of flights directly near the eastern borders of Russia.”
“In 2020 alone, strategic aviation of the US Air Force carried out 22 flights over the Sea of Okhotsk, while in 2019 there were only three. During these events, the crews of American bombers practiced reaching the limits of using cruise missiles with the delivery of simulated missile strikes,” added the Russian Defense Minister.
He emphasized that in all cases, Russian air defense systems promptly detected American bombers, established control and took measures to prevent the incident.
“Such actions by US strategic bombers pose a threat not only to Russia, but also to China,” concluded Sergei Shoigu.
The Chinese Defense Minister said that the United States is taking the same aggressive military actions against Beijing as it did against Russia.
