The US Air Force is currently in the process of transferring 12 Thunderbolt attack aircraft from the Warthogs base in Germany, four of which are already in Romania at the northern Romanian air force base Campia Turzi.
The Dhaka Thunderstorm 2015 maneuvers will take place until mid-July. In addition to attack aircraft, about 350 soldiers will participate in the exercises.
From Romania, four MiG-21 Lancer military aircraft and six IAR-330 Puma helicopters will participate in the maneuvers. The purpose of the Dhaka Thunderstorm 2015 exercise is to increase the compatibility of American and Romanian aviation. The exercises will take place near the border with Ukraine, Moldova and Crimea.
“NATO is increasing its presence in Europe to reassure our allies and partners of our commitment to security in Europe,” said Lieutenant General Tom Jones, Allied Air Forces Europe.
Let us recall that over the past few months NATO has sharply increased its military presence in six member countries of the military alliance near the borders with Russia. Additional contingents of US troops, military equipment and military aircraft were introduced into these countries. Similar air exercises will take place in Bulgaria.
